Basic Scones

1 1/4 c rolled oats
2 tbsp oil
2/3 c scalded milk
2 tbsp corn syrup
1-1/2 c bread flour (all-purpose will do)
1 tbsp corn starch
3 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt

Put the oats in the bowl of a food processor (or use a hand blender and a regular bowl) and chop them lightly. In a small mixing bowl, combine oats with oil, corn syrup, and hot milk. Let it cool down. Sift together the rest of the ingredients, then add to the oats/milk stuff, mixing well.

Dump it out onto a floured table, counter, board, or whatever and split in half. Roll each piece into a round cake shape about a half-inch thick, then cut into four (they'll look like triangles). Bake on a hot, oiled griddle or frying pan for about fifteen minutes, but only turn them once.
