1 package active dry yeast
3 T. lukewarm water
5 c. flour
1 t. soda
3 t. baking powder
2 t. sugar
1 l/2 t. salt
1 c. shortening
3 c. buttermilk

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Sift all dry ingredients together in a bowl. Fold in shortening. Add buttermilk, then yeast mixture. Stir until thoroughly moistened, then knead a minute or two(No rising is required). Roll out to desired thickness (suggest 1/2 inch), and cut into rounds. Brush with melted butter and bake on ungreased pan at 400 degrees for 12-14 minutes. Dough can be refrigerated until ready to use; it keeps well for several days. Baked biscuits freeze beautifully.
