Cottage Pie

1 lb russet potatoes, peeled & cooked
5 Tb butter
1/2lb mushrooms, sliced
1lb lean ground beef(or pork, or turkey)
1 small onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 Tb flour
3/4 c. canned beef gravy
1/4 c chopped fresh parsley
1 medium carrot, sliced
1 Tb Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. marjoram (or use oregano)


Mash potatoes with 3 Tb butter, season with salt & pepper (to taste). Saute mushrooms with 2Tb butter for 7 minutes. Transfer to bowl. Cook ground meat, onion & garlic in same skilet over medium high heat for 8 minutes or until meat is browned. Add flour and stir. Cook 2 minutes more, add mushrooms, gravy, parsley, carrot, worchestershire and marjoram. Simmer 4 minutes stirring occasionally. Spoon mixture into an 8in baking dish. Spoon mashed potatoes over top and smooth. Bake at 350deg for 25 min.
